 at the moment, alex and most (all?) of the ghc infrastructure are not
 working on systems < 10.13 in MacPorts.

 eg:

 https://ports.macports.org/port/alex/builds/

 If you can roll back to the last working version you have of the software
 you want (texlive-bin) you might be OK for a while. You can do this by
 activating an already-installed version, if you have it:

 {{{
 sudo port activate texlive-bin
 }}}

 there can be troubles with this, as when some things are updated and some
 things are not updated, things get out-of-sync and failures can happen.

 Some of us are working on getting the  ghc stuff working on older systems
 again. It is possible.
