Comment:

 This is a consequence of [ticket:59303 switching scons to python3].

 I [https://github.com/imageworks/Field3D/issues/103 reported the bug to
 the developers of field3d].

 field3d also has a cmake build system that we could use instead of scons,
 but who knows what other unintended changes that will bring.
