 It could be an optimisation problem.

 The source code looks perfectly reasonable to me.

 I turned optimisation off with cflags and cppflags set to `-g -O0` in the
 portfile and built using Apple clang. Testing in the build directory with
 ./ssh  did not crash and showed the usual help message. ./ssh-agent also
 worked.

 I don't have an explanation as to why it has all worked up to now.
