several people here who have issues on several OS versions. The previous
version built just fine, so something has changed somewhere. We are hoping
for a solution, e.g. a port to disable to make the build work.

Hey, that's OK, there's no need to thank me.
Just glad I could finally get you down the right path, rather than have
you keep spinning your wheels thinking gcc12 was broken on Catalina when
it apparently never was.
