Comment (by kencu):

 install {{{xorg-server}}} from MacPorts and reboot.

 Then try again.

 (Or switch everything to use +quartz which doesn't require x11 server --
 for a start, I would not recommend that at your level, but in the end you
 might eventually prefer that.)
