 after an upgrade of ports (but meld itself not) using the quartz variant,
 meld started to display filenames in the panes intermittently, with
 refresh issues. Hovering the mouse might display the name or might not,
 scrolling may help, but some names remain blank forever. It used to work
 on high sierra, then broke, but I couldn't find many new packages to
 revert so I have help there.

 Probably the issue is not meld itself, but I have not noticed the issue in
 other GTK+quartz based apps.

 After being able to build meld also on 10.7 Lion, I noticed the same issue
 there too (but have no previous versions to compare).
