 If your additional patch was accepted upstream, I'd be happy to include
 it. If it weren't for the fact that there has been no upstream activity
 for a year, I'd suggest that as the next step to get some vetting from
 people who know this code better than I do. You could (and should) try
 that, but I don't think either of us would have much confidence at this
 point that it would get a response.

 So, in parallel to that, let me try adding your patch to my branch and
 test that it doesn't break MY use case. Might be a day or so as I have
 some other stuff on just now.
