 If this problem is indeed only on my machine I think reinstall-and-move-on
 as suggested above is the cost effective solution.

 I will stay silent unless I can reproduce the problem with debug output.
 Most likely I will reinstall anyway because of OS upgrade to macOS 14 and
 the problem will either disappear, or reappear in Sonoma and therefore
 become more interesting to investigate.
