 2. My patch seems to revert, for the most part, the following commit:
 https://github.com/Yubico/libfido2/commit/0d0b2af2414df4a70bb943fadef8e2925d68e693
 Perhaps I made some error(s) in the process. I will review that, and
 perhaps make it via replacing the code rather than via tweaking macros.
