 `configure.ldflags-append -ld_classic` fixes it for me. I'll try to
 incorporate this into the PR.

 Notice that the issue is NOT the warning. That's just a warning, and
 should not cause a failure. Somehow the linker returns with exit code 1,
 without issuing any message that would explain why. This has to be another
 bug in Apple's new linker.
