Comment (by kencu):
Regarding the overlay suggestion, my goal here is to EMPOWER users. You as
a user are NOT constrained to use the build the maintainer has set up. If
you want a gobbledygook audio codec enabled, then dammit you can have it.
The USER is in charge. Five minutes to set up their overly, five minutes
to copy in the port they want to modify, and they can have any darned
option enabled they want to!
The USER is king in my world!
But on the other hand, the world need not have to live with +gobbledygook
as a variant to deal with forever after that on all the systems MacPorts
tries to support, for one user who wants it. That would be unrealistic to
force on everyone, and certainly the lack of a +gobbledygood variant
should NEVER be considered as a deficiency or defect in the Portfile.
Back to DVD reading support, it looks like it doesn't have a lot of deps,
and might be straightforward to enable broadly in the default set of
enabled options. There are already many other DVD reading applications
available for these systems -- every system that came with a DVD drive has
one as part of the system software -- and for the newer systems, you would
want to use VLC anyway, but still, it could be added to the default
MPlayer build without too much difficultly I believe.
