 gedit +quartz looks beautiful to me (see attached screenshot), however I
 did need to turn off "use the system fixed width font" in settings to get
 a clean sharp font.

 looks like the default font used by gnome quartz apps might need to be
 looked at. I forget just right now how that is set.
