 I will of course try all of the suggestions you've provided.  And again, I
 want to sincerely offer thanks for all the effort,it is greatly
 appreciated.

 Perhaps some background on how I got here will be useful.

 I originally attempted to simply build the source bind 9 from github, as
 is.  It constantly complained that the architecture detected was arm64 but
 the build required x86_64.  I did not know how to tell the build system to
 simply build the arm64 version.  (Of course this was never an issue with
 my Intel Mac)  Prior to getting to that final situation, I had gone down
 the rabbit hole of downloading every library that the build kept finding
 missing (cmake, libuc-something or other, etc.) until I gave up and
 decided to try the macports.  I believe I successfully backed out all of
 those successful library builds before installing macports, as I worried
 they might collide somehow.  I also had to remove older non-working
 versions of brew.  My current M1 Pro has had my data migrated from
 previous mac's so there was a lot of crap that simply didn't work on the
 M1.  I deleted all of that.
