Comment (by FaradayLight):

 I attempted the installation again using "sudo port update" at: Sat Dec 14
 00:18:56 GMT 2024.

 I still got the same error as in the original report. I assumed this might
 be due to a delay in sync of the updated package to the mirror the package
 was downloaded from (https://fra.de.packages.macports.org/libvpx).

 Just in case, I ran a "sudo port clean libvpx" followed by a "sudo port
 install libvpx". This time the following error was reported:

 {{{

 https://fra.de.packages.macports.org/libvpx

 --->  Verifying checksums for libvpx
 --->  Extracting libvpx
 --->  Applying patches to libvpx
 --->  Configuring libvpx
 Error: libvpx cannot be built while gtest is active.
 Error: Please forcibly deactivate gtest, e.g. by running:
 Error:
 Error: sudo port -f deactivate gtest
 Error:
 Error: Then try again. You can reactivate gtest again later.
 Error: Failed to configure libvpx: gtest is active

 there is a bug.
 Error: Processing of port libvpx failed
 }}}

 I checked for an instance of "gtest" but found none.

 Re-ran the above "clean" and "install" sequences again after confirming
 that gtest is not running but encountered the same issue.
