 > Well, it would be very interesting and a great step to move forward wine
for older OS. For me it was always a unique point of MP, that even very
old OS had the possibility to use new(er) tools.

As I don’t own anything capable of running a legacy version of macOS that
would be difficult, unless you’re willing to do some testing.

_Technically_ it should be possible for modern wine to function on macOS
Sierra or greater, but macOS Sierra/High Sierra & macOS Mojave require
 +universal

To avoid some problems I’d need to avoid gstreamer below macOS Catalina.

 > Regarding the +universal-thing: I thought that further wine could get
ridd of this +universal obligation. Isn't it possible to have a pure Intel
build? At that time +uiversal meant PPC/INtel, or am I wrong? In the
 meantime ARM came along.

Newer version of wine (9.0+) support new WoW64 that allows an x86_64 wine
loader to run both i386 & x86_64 windows binaries, however that only works
on macOS Catalina 10.15.4 and greater, macOS 10.15.0 to 10.15.3 require
 an entitlement or disable SIP.

macOS Mojave and below requires an i386 wineloader for 32Bit windows
binaries and an x86_64 wineloader for 64Bit windows binaries.
