 I am glad you located this problem.  I am withdrawing my PR as not
 appropriate for this issue.  My ulterior motive is this same `chown`
 breaking on group names containing nonstandard characters.  See
 https://trac.macports.org/ticket/58878 and
 https://trac.macports.org/ticket/49501, still broken for me.
