 installation phases, where an installation phase is something like fetch,
 extract, build, and so on.

 Could be. In other words, one of the installation phases is the install
 phase? (Which comes after the destroot phase.)

 The title of section 5.3 is "Port Phases", though the introductory
 paragraph does use the term "installation phases" in the sense you
 suggest. I still find it confusing.
