Comment:

 It would be ideal for the port to install shared libraries always and
 remove the variant. However, the comment in the port suggests they're not
 built by default because [https://github.com/google/googletest/issues/3442
 they make the test suite fail]. I'm not sure that's a good reason though.
 Most users don't run the tests. Developers who want to run the tests could
 disable the shared libraries.
