 I get the white windows running gscan2pdf +x11 as well. I tried with sudo
 but no better.

 gcstar works +x11 (but the fonts are not right).

 On the other hand, reinstalling gtk3 +quartz, and both gscan2pdf and
 gcstar work perfectly.
