Comment (by ryandesign):

Since the version of colorer we have in MacPorts is so old, everything
about it has changed since then: license, C++ standard, dependencies,
build system. There is only one port depending on colorer—php-colorer—and
it too is very old, having had its first and last releases in 2005. I
cannot find its current homepage, source code repository, or issue
tracker; I only found [https://pecl.php.net/package/colorer its page on
pecl] which says it's unmaintained. I will have to check whether this old
php-colorer works with the new version of colorer.

For now, though, the new colorer doesn't build, so I can't update the
 port. [https://github.com/colorer/Colorer-library/issues/28 I've filed a
 bug report].
