 MacPorts doesn't mess anything up. MacPorts makes (optional) use of
 hfscompression, a feature Apple introduced in Mac OS X 10.6. If podman
 and/or qemu are not compatible with hfscompression, that is an upstream
 bug that should be reported to them.
