 .  I'm in the middle of a multiple-level disaster of my own which started
 with the internal SSD on my Mac going haywire.

 FWIW, I should probably add that this is on an Intel-based Mac mini.  Not
 Apple Silicon.  I'm thinking the only way out of this is to erase the
 entire disk, reinstall macOS, redo the restore from TimeMachine, and then
 upgrade ports without updating `openssh`!  Painful, but it's also going to
 be painful without those ssh key-times.
