 so you should be able to do your thing with the SDK and the deployment
 target set to 10.13, so long as you blacklist /usr/bin/clang in all your
 builds.

 That is -- not terribly hard to do. You can set up custom compilers in
 macports.conf. But OOTH, it's an extra step too, and you need to keep your
 wits about you.

 I still say that a VM or a dedicated machine is your better option, but
 indeed, as is usual with MacPorts, with perseverance there is generally a
 way.
