Comment (by ryandesign):

 The gdal port includes the legacysupport 1.0 portgroup. The legacysupport
 1.1 portgroup has an optional feature that ports can opt into
 (`legacysupport.use_mp_libcxx yes`) to use a newer MacPorts libc++.
