 so geeqie works for me as an x11 build, but works badly.

 For the x11 build to work, you need to install xorg-server, and then log
 out and back in again. Sorry, that is just the hosed-up way it works.

 Because the x11 version of geeqie works so badly for me, I fixed the
 quartz version.

 The quartz version works GREAT. I am running it right now.
