New description:

 when I run `sudo port install xv` I end up with the error message

 My default python (the python on my PATH) was python3.11. I changed it to
 python3.9 but I still got the same error message. I don't really know my
 way around python so I'm likely doing something dumb, in which case I
 could use advice on how to fix it. Thank you.
