 In fact what portfile claims is apparently just wrong or at least not the
 case anymore. Commenting out the following chunk fixes configure:

 # foreach mpi {mpich mpich_devel openmpi openmpi_devel} {
 #     require_active_variants hdf5 "" ${mpi}
 # }
 }}}
