 Wine themselves recommend installing with Homebrew, which has Wine 9.0:
 https://wiki.winehq.org/MacOS

 Unfortunately MacPorts users can't use this options, since (I'm told) the
 two systems don't play well together.

 For this reason it would be very useful to update Wine within MacPorts.
