 After sudo port clean, upgrade, install outdated,  removing old ports etc
 it still fails to compile Sonoma, arm64.  The port is reporting poor
 health -- so perhaps this ticket is not appropriate.

 Reading through the log file, the problem may be associated with gsl --
 but it is hard to say.
