 I've created this MR
 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gegl/-/merge_requests/201 which should
 incorporate the fix suggested by the `gcc` team. However, due to
 https://trac.macports.org/ticket/71162 I'm not able to test that this
 works with `clang` let alone with `gcc`, so if someone could test and
 comment here or in the upstream issue it would be much appreciated.
