 I want to implement this change in order to be able to test Perl modules
 that communicate via sockets with the internet or my Mac. An update of
 MacPorts is available. How can I update to the "variant" with usefully
 short path names? Reinstall manually patched MacPorts from source? See
 also #71297, #71221.
