 Running {{{sudo port install sbcl}}} has the same effect (and printout) as
 in the OP.

 Because of this problem I had previously downloaded the
 sbcl-2.4.8-source.tar.pz2 directly and had installed it according to the
 directions on https://www.sbcl.org/getting.html. I can run it from the
 command line but apparently MacPorts doesn't recognize it.
