 Note that Karl Glazebrook made a simple standalone example of this crash
 here: https://github.com/PDLPorters/perl5-PGPLOT/issues/14

 Note that it is fixed when "gcc" is used for the compile, rather than the
 "cc" compiler (from Apple's Xcode).
