 given that there a gazillion places in gib2 where python, python3, and
 perhaps python2 are used, and keeping up with all the locations is very
 very tedious and fragile, it's pretty tempting to just throw some symlinks
 to the desired python named python, python2, and python3 in a folder and
 just set the PATH to find those first.

 permanent fix, forever, assuming that works as easily as it should.
