 i have gotten 10.6 to build llvm-19 using clang-11 as well, which seems
 very similar to how the 10.7 log turns out.

 it's possible we can dial back mp-clang-14 to mp-clang-11 for mp-clang-19
 for brosemite and lower?

 we should be minimalists here. the crash on 10.6 when building with mp-
 clang-14 seems to suggest some nasty underlying problem with the linker?
