Ok I'm going to be that guy: this sucks.

We're 4 months from the release of PHP 8.5, with zero sign of progress
towards an 8.4 release. Even the 8.3 point release is more than 6 months
old. I'm now in the process of moving my local testing to a Linux VM as
we're preparing for updates to our codebase to support 8.4.

 Bjarne Mathiesen [https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/28140
posted a PR] including a PHP 8.4 update which was dismissed out of hand. A
rejection of the PR would not have been unreasonable, as it had way too
many changes. Instead it got a snarky comment and then silence. If there's
someone with the skills and willingness to help, and the maintainers are
unable to do the work themselves, engaging with that user would be a more
 productive approach.

It goes without saying that Ryan's long history of work on the PHP ports
is appreciated. But those past efforts create the not unreasonable
expectation by users that the port will be consistently maintained going
forward. If that is not going to be the case, even temporarily, it should
be communicated clearly to users, and alternate arrangements made.
