 Indeed I too have found Apple Discussions to be useless.

 I'm glad this turned out to be the known command line tools bug and that
 you were able to get past it. I sure wish Apple would fix that bug!

 We have had some problems before with users who configured their Terminal
 to open in Rosetta. We never expected users to do that, so we never tested
 it and it didn't work well. We have tried to work around it (for example
 where your log shows `Warning: MacPorts started under Rosetta 2, re-
 executing natively`) but there may still be some lingering problems so we
 still recommend using a native Terminal, so it's good that you've already
 set your Terminal back to not running in Rosetta.

 If you have other problems with MacPorts, please do

 frustrated. :) General questions can be asked on the macports-users
 mailing list and if you've found what appears to be a bug, filing a ticket
 here in Trac is best.
