 in m4's snapshot of gnulib].  Do those architectures still need `patch-m4
 -use-older-regnames-on-tiger.diff`?  Or were those parts of the patch
 unnecessary this whole time?

 Good point.  I don't have an i386 Mac capable of running Tiger to test, so
 the conservative approach would be to drop only the third hunk of the
 patch, as the PPC part is definitely fixed upstream for Tiger and earlier.
