 I uninstalled wren and re-installed:

 sudo port -v -s install -k wren

 That way I was able to retain the build log file (already attached).

 Here is where I state I want only arm builds:
 sudo grep build_arch /opt/local/etc/macports/macports.conf
 build_arch              arm64

 Looks like a bug.
