 > I don't keep my proof-of-concept ports religiously up-to-date, but I can
confirm that I still fetched source bundles from github.com on OS X 10.9
 yesterday, without any issues.

And I can confirm that GitHub fetches did ''not'' work on ''my'' 10.9
system yesterday, with the standard OS-provided `libcurl` and
certificates. Since you're the author of `apple-pki-bundle`, it seems
likely that you've updated your own certificates.

I installed `apple-pki-bundle`, but the documentation for using it seems
to boil down to RTFC, so I've postponed using it until I have time to
 figure it out.

And as I pointed out in #73388, shelling out to `${prefix}/bin/curl` when
available would be a far simpler fix than what's suggested here.
