Comment (by artkiver):

 Thanks for sharing your perspective!

I should have remembered the conflicts option, since libressl and
 libressl-devel make use of that!

Though that begs the question, if the two ports conflict and do no co-
exist, presumably that would cause issues for db migrations as well?

As I wrote in the last comment in the PR I submitted, I may be
overthinking this since Howard made mention of such things I thought it
was worth trying to get more perspective.

The InstallingOlderPort may suffice for users potentially impacted; though
I am guessing if there are things downstream which may encounter issues,
they will probably have to address that in a more involved manner than I
 can attempt to resolve proactively?

LMDB seems to have more installed users via mpstats output than anything
else on which I am listed as a maintainer and I am guessing it may be
embedded as a dependency in other projects to varying degrees, so I have
been somewhat apprehensive, though perhaps unnecessarily so!

If you think it wise to raise these concerns on the macports-dev mailing
list, I will do so. My apologies for misuse of Trac; I had been hoping to
get some other perspectives via IRC though I am not logged into that with
much frequency, and I guess I made a bad judgement call as far as Trac
being less formal than the mailing list.
