 as I said earlier: please respond in the ticket instead of e-mailing, so
 that everything is all in the same please.

 Anyway, what you send me shows that you are using both MacPorts and
 Homebrew, and have installed coot with both. That is not a supported setup
 and very likely the cause of the issue since I cannot reproduce it
 locally. You should ideally pick one package manager and stick with it. If
 the Homebrew version works for you, great - do use it! If you want support
 to use the MacPorts provided one, please make sure that Homebrew does not
 interfere (or remove it). If you can reproduce the segfault on a “clean”
 system then I am happy to look again.
