Comment (by lpagani91):

 Sorry for the long delay, I was away. I am not sure whether Renée was
 answering to me or to someone else...

 So to answer Renée's questions :

 {{{
 cd /opt/local/lib/gio/modules && port provides `ls
 /opt/local/lib/gio/modules/`
 /opt/local/lib/gio/modules/libxfconfgsettingsbackend.so is provided by:
 xfconf
 }}}

 The output from `sudo port diagnose` gives a number of irrelevant warnings
 for our problem and possibly these useful ones :

 {{{
 Warning: found dylibs in your /usr/local/lib directory. These are known to
 cause problems. We'd recommend you remove them.
 Warning: found header files in your /usr/local/include directory. These
 are known to cause problems. We'd recommend you remove them.
 }}}

 I probably have to clean my /usr/local tree but erasing all dylibs at once
 seems a bit violent ?

 Then in the end of the diagnose, this message :

 {{{
 Warning: The Xcode Command Line Tools package appears to be installed, but
 its receipt appears to be missing.
 Warning: The Command Line Tools may be outdated, which can cause problems.
 }}}

 I will reinstall the CLT as suggested.

 Finally:

 {{{
 port installed gobject-introspection-bootstrap meson
 None of the specified ports are installed.
 }}}
