 The `configure script` is explicitly warning:

   --disable-maintainer-mode
                           disable make rules and dependencies not useful
 (and
                           sometimes confusing) to the casual installer
 }}}

 but then the the `configure phase` starts with:

 --enable-bsdtar=shared --enable-bsdcpio=shared --disable-silent-rules

 and the `configure script` has to report:
