 There is no alternative on < 10.7 out-of-the-box besides Xcode gcc and
 pre-historic clang (which is broken on ppc). Of course, modern gcc / clang
 are buildable, but since `tcl` is bundled in MacPorts, requiring to
 bootstrap the whole new compiler just to install MacPorts (and then
 needing to build that compiler again, but now inside MacPorts) will be
 wild :)
