 It should be default to add to `/opt/local/etc/mariadb-<version>/macports-
 default.cnf` a line like:

 {{{
 log_error=/opt/local/var/log/mariadb-<version>/mariadb.log
 }}}

 This would help a lot to understand why the db does not start. Or help
 solving minor problems.
