Comment (by NeilBowles):

 Thanks for looking at this.

After the py314-virtualenv install running the python import command gives
 the same error:

 Traceback (most recent call last):
   File "<string>", line 1, in <module>
from nbconvert import PythonExporter as nbexporter
ImportError: cannot import name 'PythonExporter' from 'nbconvert'
 (/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.14/lib/python3.14
 /site-packages/nbconvert/__init__.py)

Here's the installed port list from the port contents list:

 /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.14/lib/python3.14
 /site-packages/nbconvert-7.17.1.dist-info/entry_points.txt:python =
 nbconvert.exporters:PythonExporter
 /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.14/lib/python3.14
 /site-packages/nbconvert/__init__.py: PythonExporter,
 /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.14/lib/python3.14
 /site-packages/nbconvert/__init__.py: "PythonExporter",
 /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.14/lib/python3.14
 /site-packages/nbconvert/exporters/__init__.py:from .python import
 PythonExporter
 /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.14/lib/python3.14
 /site-packages/nbconvert/exporters/__init__.py: "PythonExporter",
 /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.14/lib/python3.14
 /site-packages/nbconvert/exporters/python.py:class
 PythonExporter(TemplateExporter):

this looks to be a very similar setup to yours, suggesting something
upstream to MacPorts, so I think this is looking perhaps more tricky.
