Comment (by essandess):

 Thanks for @pmetzger for these fixes. A few comments:

 * Idiosyncratically, {{{cabal}}}'s configuration specification for the C
 compiler is {{{--with-gcc}}}, and if you want {{{clang}}}, the
 documentation says to . See:
   * https://cabal.readthedocs.io/en/3.14/config.html#program-options
   * {{{cabal configure --help | grep -- --with}}}
   * https://github.com/haskell/cabal/issues/7899
 * Therefore, to the best of my knowledge, I believe {{{cabal}}} should be
 configured with {{{with-ghc: ${configure.cc}}} in its top-level
 {{{config}}} file created in PG {{{haskell_cabal}}}, rather than the
 current setting {{{gcc-location: ${configure.cc}}}}, which as noted here
 wouldn't do anything.
 * The lines added {{{ghc-options: -pgmc=${configure.cc}" }}} in
 https://github.com/macports/macports-
 ports/commit/847649d272216b580a0a5c87b76d282d31e78367#diff-
 c925442da5b6f614ff77da74d25253ccb45e29e1b855fdc91ab58ed3c4ede6beR93 in
 {{{pandoc}}} should be unnecessary if {{{gcc-location: ${configure.cc}}}}
 is set correctly.
 * But if it works, it works, and if it works we should add these lines to
 the baseline {{{config}}} file for all {{{cabal}}} builds in PG
 {{{haskell_cabal}}}.

 Also, your symbol manipulation in {{{ghc-prebuilt}}} is an inspired and
 valiant effort in https://github.com/macports/macports-
 ports/commit/7704d783cdeb79174e270b0712d94a64f64c8d0d, but sadly I see
 this ancient {{{iconv}}} error on a build of {{{ghc}}} now:
 {{{
 :info:build Undefined symbols for architecture x86_64:
 :info:build   "_libiconv", referenced from:
 :info:build       _hs_iconv in libHSghc-
 internal-9.1401.0-53af.a[6](iconv.o)
 :info:build   "_libiconv_close", referenced from:
 :info:build       _hs_iconv_close in libHSghc-
 internal-9.1401.0-53af.a[6](iconv.
 o)
 :info:build   "_libiconv_open", referenced from:
 :info:build       _hs_iconv_open in libHSghc-
 internal-9.1401.0-53af.a[6](iconv.o
 )
 :info:build ld: symbol(s) not found for architecture x86_64
 :info:build clang: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v
 to see
 invocation)
 }}}

 I'll dig into these issues and report back here or if appropriate in a new
 issue.
