Comment (by reneeotten):

 It seem you're implying that an update of MacPorts to version 2.12.6
 causes issues with Gtk/Gobject/Python - that's very unlikely as the
 version of MacPorts base has likely nothing to do with that.

 What would be more helpful is to show the actual versions of the ports
 that you're referring to if anything. I am assuming that all your ports
 are up-to-date? Just checking as I don't see any issues when running your
 example script: an empty window opens and nothing crashes.

 {{{
 Darwin MacBookPro 25.6.0 Darwin Kernel Version 25.6.0: Fri Jul 31 19:11:49
 PDT 2026; root:xnu-12377.161.14~5/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64
 }}}

 That's on an Intel machine, but I am not sure why an ARM64 machine would
 behave differently... unless you've installed ports with {{{+universal}}}
 I think I've seen reports of issues with that before. So you'll need to
 provide some more information: are all the ports up-to-date, do you have
 any of the relevant ports installed with {{{+universal}} or other, non-
 default variants, etcetera.

 Finally, perhaps updating to the latest macOS versions would help as I see
 that's a difference as well; I doubt that but who knows ;)
