Comment (by JULWAL1):

 I installed "incremental" versions of my custom-rust:

 {{{
 rust-custom-1.82
 rust-custom-1.83
 rust-custom-1.84
 rust-custom-1.85
 rust-custom-1.88
 rust-custom-1.92
 }}}

 This was so that I could upgrade each previously installed MacPorts
 py313-maturin installation, as each version has different requirements for
 rustc
 (and at the time, I didn't realise that I could successfully build a
 custom rustc/cargo 1.9x).

 Today, I looked at the {{{Cargo.toml / Cargo.lock}}} files for each
 version of py313-maturin that I installed.
 Here are the required versions of rustc for each one:

 {{{
 [package]
 …
 name = "maturin"
 version = "1.9.6"
 …
 edition = "2021"
 rust-version = "1.74” <----- Works with the capped MacPorts cargo
 @0.79.0_3 and rust @1.78.0_1 for macOS Sierra.

 [package]
 …
 name = "maturin"
 version = "1.10.2"
 …
 edition = "2021"
 rust-version = "1.83"  <----- I used my custom-rust 1.83+ for that.

 [package]
 …
 name = "maturin"
 version = "1.12.6"
 …
 edition = "2024"
 rust-version = "1.88"  <----- I used my custom-rust 1.88 for that.

 [package]
 …
 name = "maturin"
 version = "1.13.1"
 …
 edition = "2024"
 rust-version = "1.88"  <----- I used my custom-rust 1.92 for that.

 [package]
 …
 name = "maturin"
 version = "1.13.3"
 …
 edition = "2024"
 rust-version = "1.89"  <----- I used my custom-rust 1.92 for that with the
 C stub file

 [package]
 …
 name = "maturin"
 version = "1.14.1"
 …
 edition = "2024"
 rust-version = "1.89"  <----- I used my custom-rust 1.92 for that with the
 C stub file

 }}}

 Also, this seems to be a relevant file:

 /opt/local/var/macports/build/py313-maturin-
 8b51baf4/work/.home/.cargo/macports/security-framework-3.7.0/src/trust.rs

 Here is some diagnostic information for each installed version of
 py313-maturin on my macOS Sierra machine, including the
 _SecTrustEvaluateWithError symbol if present.

 I have only just noticed that the Portfile for rust 1.96 to 1.98 has a lot
 of additional detailed info in it.

 Might consider attempting upgrading cargo and rust from the capped
 versions.
